This true-life action movie tells the story of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster. Mark Wahlberg plays Mike Williams, the Chief Electronics Technician on the rig. While his crew of grizzled vets and new workers is solid, the equipment is shoddy and outdated, and the unscrupulous executives in charge don’t seem to care. It’s the perfect setup for a disaster, so when a huge explosion rocks the facility, it’s not exactly a surprise. Williams and the crew members who survive the blast are stranded hundreds of miles from help in a hellscape of mud, water, and flames. As the Deepwater Horizon crumbles around them, the crew members desperately fight to live. This adrenaline-drenched disaster flick is all the more terrifying because it actually happened.
