This likable, self-aware comedy reunites 21 Jump Street’s unlikely cop partners Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill), along with their crusty boss Ice Cube. The mismatched cops have clearly grown too old for high school, so they head off to college to rat out fraternity brothers who are dosing co-eds with WHYPHY, a dangerous new methlike drug. Through their investigation, Jenko becomes very involved in fraternity life, putting the pair’s jobs and larger-than-life bromance on the line. The set pieces are bigger this time, as is the budget, but not everything has changed. 21 Jump Street’s lighthearted, anything-goes tone returns, as does its skewering of movie cliches and absolute insistence on not taking anything – even itself – seriously.
